Chicken Foot Amulet/Smudge Wand

One of my favorite pastimes lately is making Chicken Foot Amulets/Smudge Wands. Each has a different charge to it: protection, healing, smudging/cleansing, etc., whatever it is the foot portrays to me.

           

All of the chicken feet and chicken feathers are from our own chickens. We don't kill them; they either die of old age or some other creature may get them.

Each is unique and one of a kind in both their feather designs and how the foot dried.

I have feathered or naked feet, black or white skin, painted or not, large or small. Each is placed on the altar, then blessed & charged to intent.

They range in price from $25 ~ $75, depending on size and amount of work (crafting & ritual). I will eventually put on the Hoodoo Hill Etsy Shoppe, but right now, I'm just presenting them here and on the Hoodoo Hill Facebook page.

When Faith & Spirituality Change

How often have you found yourself realizing that you haven't been as diligent in your spiritual life, and you seem to have 'lost faith' in your ability to be faith-full?

I've spent much of the last few years in this type of situation. I used to have a morning ritual, say a charm of cleansing & protection while bathing, have a greeting to my Guides each day, give thanks at each meal. But the last three to four years feel as though I've been very lax in this regard.

There have been spurts of activity, especially when I became consciously aware that I was not being as conscientious as I should be, but overall, my spiritual life has sucked. So, looking back over those years, what changed?

Four years ago, I went to work at a local newspaper and then bought that newspaper two and half years ago. I am bizzz-eeee! To say the least! But yet, I'm not. There is still 'down time' and plenty of time at home when I could still be spiritually active with rituals, spells, and works of all kinds.

There have been plans in the works to do how-to videos. But everyone does those, so why would mine be any different? They wouldn't, they'd just be done by "Granny Tackett." So what. I'm not one for needing my face out on the internet trying to prove whatever it is I know. Besides, I'm far better at writing...probably why I own a newspaper. :D

So, reviewing my spiritual life, has it really "sucked" or has it just changed; morphing with my new life-schedule?

When I bathe, I still recite my charm of cleansing & protection. So, that's good.

I greet my Guides as I watch the sun rise on the far horizon while I feed and care for our farm animals. So, that's a great one!

Everyday when I get to work the woman who works with me always makes sure we pull cards and record it in our Tarot diary on the computer. So, no faltering there.

I give thanks at every meal. So, again, no faltering there either.

Every little 'good thing' that comes my way, I always say, "Thank you" for it. I maintain an "Attitude of Gratitude".

The only thing I don't do as regularly is spell works. Reviewing the 'why' of it, I find that I do, but only as-needed. And I really haven't needed to!

My life is blessed!

I have my Guides who guide me. I have the Creator Who makes sure my needs are met. I have my Deities who remind me when I need to do more. And, I have an Attitude of Gratitude that keeps the blessings flowing toward me.

So, the next time you feel you've been in a slump, mundane or spiritual, stop and take a good long review to figure out the 'why' of it. You'll either find that you are, indeed, slumping, or that it has been so subtly consistent that you didn't realize that it is so much a part of your life that it  'just is".

For bringing this supposed slump to my attention, and helping me to realize that it wasn't actually; I want to thank my Guides, the Creator, and the Deities (i.e. La Muerte & Mother Mary, in particular, and a few who shall remain private).

I hope y'all find that you, also, aren't really in that slump and how truly blessed your life really is! :)

Protection Spells for Our New Home
As most of y'all know, we bought an old church & one-room schoolhouse on 3 3/4+/- acres in northwest Kansas and are renovating them. The schoolhouse is our home, and the huge church building is my husband's machine shop upstairs and my craft room and altar room downstairs.

As they are in the church, I consider them on sacred ground and thus protected by the Divine due to the many prayers and services and weddings and memorials that were held there for the 50+ years it was in use. Having sat vacant for 30+ years, the energies has settled and become dormant to an extent, but they're still there. I can feel it coming alive now, ever since we began clearing out the debris and trash that had been dumped there over the years. And a true blessing has been finding that Owls have taken up residence in the rafters. They'll have to be closed out permanently, but we're going to build them a house on one of the unused power poles behind the church. Hopefully they'll take up residence there rather than move away completely.

We call this one "Bam-Bam".

As for particular spells I will be doing around the house as we complete more of the projects, I have several planned:

1) When the window sills are finally put in place, I will pour a line of red brick dust first, then place the sill over it, sealing it in permanently. Also, each window (and there are alot of them) will have a SATOR Square inscribed on each sill around the window pryor to the finished sill trim being put in place and painted.

2) We have wood floors that need refinishing, so when they are at the point of sealing I will first draw on the floor with the brush a very large pentacle (a pentagram with a circle around it) of protection. I haven't decided yet, but I am considering a large one in the center, and 4 others in the corners, basically producing a Quincunx Cross. Each pentacle will be drawn according to what I wish to draw from that particular direction.

3) I will print out several of the Seals of Solomon to be attached to the back of the sheetrock as it is going up on the walls, both for protection, as well as for the blessings each bestows. There will also be Seals that are placed in the shops to bring in customers and income. (To see each Seal of Solomon I've chosen, go to the Lesson: Magic Seals of Solomon).

Not many people are lucky enough to be able to start from scratch, literally, as we are. But these protections and blessings can be done anywhere. It just takes a bit of thought and creativity. So think of what your needs are in terms of protection, blessings, and/or income, choose your Seals, print them out, and place them where you feel they will do their best work for you. Don't forget your wallet and your vehicle(s) too! ;)

"Ask, Believe, Receive"

"Ask, Believe, Receive"
These words have become a sort of mantra for me. They're from a show I watched about 'The Secret', which has been both heralded and lauded. From personal experience, I'll believe the "heralded" terminology!

As I've said a few times here, what we want and need is always within our grasp, it's just a matter of our level of belief. Our attitude going in will determine our outcome. If we have doubts, then it won't manifest, or may not manifest as well as wanted.

I've known this fact. I've stated it many times over many years. However, for some stupid reason, I hadn't really integrated it into a knowing concept within myself. So when I saw this show it finally really hit home. I couldn't tell you much about the show itself, but I can tell you that these 3 words hit me like a ton of bricks and took it to heart when they said, to "test it". They said to find something you need or want that is way beyond your means and then give it a time frame. Then everyday to think on it and believe it to be yours.

So I put those 3 words together in a mantra-like phrase, decided what I wanted, set a date (which was about a month later), and then several times a day I envisioned it as being here, reciting the 3-word mantra each time.

Now, everything was going great, no problems whatsoever, then about 1/2 way through the time frame I let "doubt" creep in a few times. I would immediately push it out, but you know what "doubt" feels like - a little "spot" in the back of your mind that says, "HA! You're nuts! It'll never work!" This went on for about 4 days, when I suddenly, and very consciously told that "Doubt" to "FUCK OFF! I will Ask, BELIEVE, and Receive!"

From then on, no more "doubt". Then, on the due-date I had set, WE RECEIVED IT!

So, what was it that we received? What was it I wanted? What was my "test"? I wanted the money to come so my husband could open a machine shop again. And so we are now in the process of doing so.

The only thing that didn't fully work out was the amount we received. My doubt caused this. But that other number was only so we'd have "extra". Which I guess we didn't "need" anyway...it's just always nice to have "extra"! LOL

Having achieved this great goal, I am now working on finding another. I have one in mind, but I have to figure out how I want it to manifest fully first. Once that is completed, then I will begin my "Ask, Believe, Receive" mantra reciting all over again.

So, if y'all are trying to get something, but you're still allowing "Doubt" to hinder you - tell that "Doubt" to take a hike! "See" what you want as already "being", then "Ask" for it and "Believe" it to be yours, and watch for you to "Receive" it.

This is the most powerful "spell" anyone can do.......FOR THEMSELVES!

Those of us who work spells & rituals live this everyday. But even we have "doubt" in the back of our minds at times. It is that doubt which kill or nullifies or diminishes that which we're trying to work, either for ourselves or our clients. When I do works for a client I am putting my belief in my ability to work with the Divine to bring about that which the client wants or needs. But I always have the fear that the client may be working against it all, just through their own self-doubt or doubt in the ability of what ever it is they're wanting, to manifest. We can only do so much for our clients. The clients must understand that they must also do their fair share of the work; they absolutely must BELIEVE that what they want or need is theirs, without a doubt!

That's my rant for the day, but I hope y'all will believe me and take it and try it out. You'll be surprised at your own power at bringing to you that which you want or need. You really DO NOT NEED us! YOU can do it all by YOURSELF - if you only believe it! :)

New Year's Eve Dark Moon Banishing Ritual
Today, December 31, 2013 is a special day! It is a Dark Moon, and the Dark Moon phase is thee perfect time for banishing rituals, and the fact that today is New Year's Eve is beyond excellent! So that means a banishing work is definitely in order.

Tools:
Paper
Pen (black ink)
Cauldron (or other fire-proof item)
Matches
String

Materials:
Candles: Black - banishing, Purple - remove bad luck, Red - fast action
Place these in that order (black, purple, red) on a fire-proof surface or stand in sand which is in a fire-proof bowl or plate.
The cauldron is placed in front of the candles.

Banishing Herbs: choose any odd number of the following (I will be choosing 9):

Agrimony, Ague Root, Angelica Root, Asafoetida, Ash, Avens, Bamboo, Basil, Bean, Belladonna, Bergamot, Birch, Black Locust, Blessed Thistle, Boldo, Boneset, Brimstone, Buckthorn, Cayenne, Celandine, Chili pepper, Clover, Cloves, Copal, Cramp Bark, Cumin, Datura, Devil’s Bit, Dill, Dragon’s Blood, Egg Shell, Elder, Elderberry, Fern, Fleabane, Frankincense, Fumitory, Galangal Root, Garlic, Gentian Root, Heliotrope, Holy Thistle, Horehound, Horseradish, Huckleberry, Hydrangea, Hyssop, Juniper, Knotweed, Leek, Lilac, Mallow, Marshmallow, Mint, Mistletoe, Monkshood, Mullein, Myrrh, Nettle, Nuts, Onion, Peach, Peony, Pennyroyal, Pepper, Peppermint, Pine, Pistachio, Poke Root, Rosemary, Rue, Sage, Sagebrush, St. John’s Wort, Sandalwood, Sloe, Solomon’s Seal, Squill, Sulfur, Tamarisk, Thistle, Toadflax, Vetivert, Vinegar, Wahoo, Wintergreen, Witchgrass, Wormwood, Yarrow

Place half of your chosen herb mixture in the cauldron. The other half the candles will be dressed with and will be spread in a circle around the candles, and around the top of the altar

Banishing OIl: Dress the candle in the Banishing Oil and roll in the herbs to dress.

Resins:
Dragon’s Blood, Frankincense

Hour: Mars, Saturn, or Sun
Time: (Saturn) 7 pm, (Mars) 9 pm, (Sun) 10 pm (In Lesson 3: Potions & Powders is a set of Planetary Correspondences you can use to see where I figured this from: day - Tuesday, hours of Mars, Saturn, & Sun)
If you started your work at 7 pm during the hour of Saturn,it would definitely run through the hour of the Sun, so you would get the power of each of them!

Petition Paper:
First write your name, then on top of that write 9x's that which you wish to banish, then turn the paper to the left one time, and write again 9x's, that which you wish to banish over the top of the first set.
Next, fold the paper in half away from you, turn it to the left and fold it again away from you. Keep turning & folding until you can't fold it any more.
Tie the petition paper closed with the string.
Place this in the cauldron.
(You could, instead make a Petition Planetary Paquet, if you wanted to.)

If you like to use the appropriate Seals of Solomon or Black Pullet Seals, be sure to have these placed around the outside circle of herbs that are around the candles & cauldron, or placed on top of the Circle of your choice (Punish Evil, Mercy, Blessings - either of the latter 2 would actually be more appropriate for tomorrow's, New Year's Day's Full Moon work, but you do what you feel is most appropriate for your situation). This Circle and the Seals would then first be placed under the candle plate, in the center of the altar.

For the ritual itself you will light the candles with matches. The sulfur from the matches will begin the banishing, and the ritual will complete it.

You can either have a spell written to speak/read or just stand and envision all of your troubles leaving so you will begin the New Year with a completely clean & pure energy surrounding you, having all negative energies banished.

Other items you may wish to place around your altar could include anything you feel reminds you of "removing" or "banishing" or "binding". I have a couple of balled-up rusted together lengths of chains, and my altar cloth will be black. I will post a picture of it once the ritual has been started.

**Ok, promised you the picture, so here it is. I just started it 1/2 an hour ago.

 

Tomorrow, a New Moon ritual will be done to bring to me that which I need and want during this coming year. I will do basically the same as here, except the herbs will be for blessing, and the candles and altar cloth will be white. If it happens to snow (not likely, unfortunately), I will gather some to place in a bowl on the altar.

Your Own Worst Enemy and How It Effects Magic Works
Everyone's heard this phrase before, but have you actually sat and contemplated what it means? What is it referring to? Why has it become such a well-known axiom?

Starting with the last question first: BECAUSE IT'S TRUE! But it's amazing that most people have no idea just how true it is.

The first and second questions kind of go hand-in-hand, but need defining separately. 

No, most people haven't contemplated what it means because, most people never sit and contemplate. Anything. The concept of thinking about something, analyzing it, and how it affects and effects us as individuals and/or as a group is foreign to most people. Self-evaluation is vital to our own personal improvement in life. But try to ask someone if they self-evaluate and they look at you like a deer in headlights.

When I, and every other Practitioner, are commissioned to do a work for a client we are working with Divine Energy. Divine Energy is positive, light bringing, and loving. There is no negativity in it. Even in a (justified) cursing and hexing. And this then brings me to where the negative DOES come in...

It comes FROM the client! They state with absolute certainty that we, the Practitioner, can fix their problem, but often in the very same statement is a negative add-on that defeats everything we're trying to do!

Here is a simple example: A client wants employment and money. Excellent! That's usually such an easy one. But then, through communication with the client it becomes evident by their words that, while they have faith in MY ability, they have zero faith in their OWN abilities! Quite often it will go something like this:

"YOU are my only hope! I KNOW YOU can make this happen for me! YOU can fix this! But I can't do anything. I haven't skills for the job I want. I'm not good at interviews. Even if I get the job, I probably won't be good at it.", etc. ad infinitum....OMFG! Seriously? How the fuck is ANY Practitioner supposed to truly work through all of that negativity. It's defeated before it's even begun!

The client must have faith in themselves. Even a little bit helps. When a client is constantly stating, "I'll never get a good job. I don't have any skills. I can't do anything.", they're right. they won't. But if they work on changing their outlook, the changes they want will begin to manifest. Changing the above statements to "I have a good job. I have the skills I need. I can do anything I set my mind to.", then the works being done for the client will manifest, better and more quickly. And quite often in sudden unexpected ways.

If the skills needed aren't known, then the ability to learn them would be presented, such as through classes or training. Nothing is impossible. Especially when the client works fully with the Practitioner. Together, the skills of the one working with the self-belief of the other, will produce incredible results.

Then, of course, there is the client who doesn't have the self-disbelief, but instead is certain that everyone around them, at work, at home, at church, anywhere in public, is dead set against them. Just them. If these people go out of town, then they are going out of town to see a Practitioner to get "things" so they can counter act what ever works are being done to protect them. So the client then needs something much stronger to protect them from these evil people.

No, what really needs to happen is to know that you are protected. Nothing can touch you now. You are safe, because anything they do will only bounce back at them.

Every Practitioner has a specific strength. Some do awesome Love Spells. Some are great at healing. Others are proficient at Protection works. But in all of this, the energy of the client is paramount. If they believe in our skills that's great. But if they don't (usually subconsciously) believe that they deserve these benefits that they're requesting our intervention for, then their negativity will eventually (if not right from the start) defeat everything we do.

If I have a client that I find is consistently doing this, I will not do anything more for them. I will NOT waste their time and money or my time and energy in trying to manifest for them life-improvements, when they're just going to keep killing it every time. I'd rather spend my time and energy on clients who are just needing that "little oomph" of energy to get them the things they know they can have and deserve, but just aren't quite sure what's missing. That "little oomph" can bring the right people, or actions, or situations into play so that everything they want will manifest for them. And it could be in ways they didn't expect, and always for the better!

Ok, I'll step off my soapbox now! LOL But, please, people, KNOW that YOU deserve all the good things in life! Change your thinking & speaking & writing, and you will begin to see changes - very rapidly!

A client needed a ritual for Cleansing and a Fiery Wall of Protection from some evil and negativity that was being inflicted upon him. While getting ready for the ritual I kept "seeing" Santa Muerte, but as I'd only recently introduced myself to Her, I wasn't sure if I should follow where I was being led or not.

I am sooo glad I did!

Since I didn't have an actual statue of her, I thought I would just ask for her assistance. However, while on my computer looking for something completely different, I found a beautiful picture of Her and printed it out to place on the altar. I'd say she was leading me, for sure. I will be purchasing a statue of her asap!

Look how the flame is! The flame is standing almost a foot high and is shaped like the image of Santa Muerte in the picture behind it. This picture was taken just as the plate broken in two. This was a very powerful ritual and I'm very sure the client will be pleased with the feelings of freedom from all that negativity and evil that was surrounding him.

Building Bindrunes Lesson
As I have already posted a couple of the bindrunes I've made recently, I thought it might be a good idea to give a lesson on building a bindrune. This can also apply to making one's own sigil or other purpose. A bindrune is a combining of letters or symbols (usually from an ancient or magickal alphabet) for the express purpose of manifesting a desired action such as protection, money, employment, basically anything you need or want. Although I would definitely put needs above wants. You're more likely to have a greater success rate.

Something to consider when making a bindrune is to consider the culture from which the alphabet letter or symbols come from. I prefer the Elder Futhark Runes. Some use the Theban or Witch's Alphabet. Others may use the Hebrew or any number of ancient alphabet symbols. As I use the Elder Futhark I'll base my explanation on it.

The Norse were a strong, powerful, honor-driven, society. There was no room for weakness. Weakness brought potential harm or death to themselves and/or the village itself. It was a kill or be killed environment. Using even this simplistic description it then becomes quite obvious that the Nordic runes are not meant for works that need a "soft" touch. These runes bring with them a very powerful punch (think Thor here with his mighty hammer!)

For comparison, the Hebrew alphabet used in works do not hold the same energy. It is a much older alphabet, from a society that has consistently throughout its history been that of slaves or the oppressed; their family & ancestral ties are incredibly strong, and they are historically, the world's monetary exchange! Based on this information then, the Hebrew alphabet bindrunes would be best used for monetary/employment works, works regarding family dynamics, ancestral contact, as well as removing obstacles.

This is not to say that the same cannot be used for any of the various ancient alphabets & symbols, only that the historical energies behind them bring different types and levels of energy. You just have to know what you're wanting, find the alphabet with the energies you want and use them. As I said previously, I prefer the Elder Futhark Runes. They are a part of my ancestral background. And I use them for any situation. But what I'm saying is that if you're not drawn to any one ancient alphabet in particular, then use the energies of the one best suited to your need. And of course, a little historical research will be in order if you don't already know at least something about the culture or source of your chosen alphabet.

Now to build a bindrune. The following is a part of the lesson I teach on Seals, Sigils & Bindrunes at Midnight Blue Pagan Study Center.

Making a Bindrune

Every Rune has its own meaning (because it is also a form of written language), intent and energy. By combining certain chosen Runes for their specific energies you can design a Bindrune that will contain considerable powers towards its purpose, whether manifestation of something, protection of its bearer, or healing, or whatever it was you designed it for.

Find the Runes you need. For our example we will design a Bindrune for personal protection. The powers of the Runes are most affective when used in a relative sequence of starting Rune, beginning Rune, central Runes, and the two Runes for sealing the energies.

There are two consensus regarding whether to use all the Runes that would apply to your need or only just a few. The first holds to the belief that the Bindrune then holds the energies of anything that could apply to the intent of the Bindrune being designed. The latter opinion is that it will be easier to remember the Runes that went into making the Bindrune. 

I, personally, believe in using all that would apply. The reason being that each of the Runes do then attach their energies and powers to the Bindrune, and these energies coalesce into one. Which is the reason for using a Bindrune in the first place. Also, the point regarding too many Runes being hard to remember is a ridiculous argument, because the reason for making a Bindrune is to have a “new” Rune to work with that is all yours. So all you have to remember is the new Rune, not all those that went into making it!

With that said, let’s make a Protection Bindrune using the following Runes:

Wyrd - Blank rune is the starting Rune, which is placed before the “official” first rune, Fehu, because it is energy at its most basic and must be programmed & controlled by the subsequent Runes. This Rune, since it is blank, has the square as its shape due to its relationship to all four directions and the four elements. This square is then what surrounds, or frames, the Bindrune formed by the other Runes. 

Fehu  should always be the “official” first Rune in the sequence because it is used to expedite any circumstance or situation and to send magickal power to strengthen surrounding Runes toward the desired result.

Thurisaz  is the next in the sequence due to its wielding of the powers of destruction or self-defense. It is power directed by the sheer force of your will.

Kaunaz  Rune protects your valuables and anything you place this Rune on. It also banishes any negative energies coming at you.

Algiz  is another Rune for the purpose of protection because it is the “Hero’s Rune” to protect & defend yourself, loved ones and your possessions. It also repels danger, theft & destructive energies and banishes & diminishes the power of those wishing ill-will toward you.

Berkano  provides protection from an emotional level directed from yourself to what ever the need may be.

Wunjo  should be used as the next to the last Rune to ensure a successful and happy ending to be manifested. This Rune harmonizes & channels energies toward clearly specified intents.

Ing  Binds, fixes, and holds the desired outcome in any situation. It keeps the powers from diminishing in the magickal works you’ve done and prevents you from losing, or being stolen from, that which you’ve worked for.

For ease of being able to see what I’ve done, each Rune is a different color.

To come to the arrangement I like, after trying several that I didn’t, the following is how each of the Runes were arranged and adjusted. I made sure to place each in order, so as to keep the continuity of the energies flowing properly.

So, now you know how to go about making a Bindrune of your own. The steps are easy, follow them and you’ll have a Bindrune that is specific to you and your needs and holds your powers combined with those of your chosen Runes.

To review:

1) Review the Runes and their meanings

2) Choose the Runes you’ll use

3) Remember to always use the Blank Rune as your framework around the others

4) Remember to always use the Wunjo & Ing Runes as the final two Runes so you seal in and insure the success of your Bindrune
